Hyundai Motor India Limited has taken the wraps off the refreshed i20 premium hatchback, marking yet another significant milestone in the Indian automotive industry. The 2023 version of the i20 comes with a starting price of ₹6.99 lakh, going up to ₹11.01 lakh (exclusive of showroom charges). This latest iteration of the i20 showcases an array of cosmetic enhancements, additional features, and a boost in safety elements, while also saying goodbye to the turbo-petrol engine.

A Dynamic Heartbeat: The Engine

Under the hood, the updated i20 boasts a robust 1.2-litre Kappa NA petrol engine paired with a five-speed manual and an iVT unit. This BS6 2.0-compliant motor churns out a spirited 82bhp and a substantial 115Nm of peak torque. With this upgrade, Hyundai has bid farewell to the 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor in the i20's lineup.

Exterior Highlights

The exterior of the Hyundai i20 facelift has undergone a remarkable transformation. It now features new LED headlamps and distinct L-shaped LED DRLs. The parametric jewel pattern grille gives the new Hyundai i20 an aggressive and dynamic front look. Bold character lines on the hood enhance its commanding presence. The addition of a chrome outside door handle not only adds a touch of luxury but also ensures an easy grip. Furthermore, the puddle lamp beneath the doors illuminates the ground below, providing enhanced visibility and adding to the car's style quotient. The side sill garnish with i20 branding and glossy black side sill with i20 branding contribute to the dynamic side profile.

The premium hatchback also proudly displays a 3D Hyundai logo on its bonnet and rides on 16-inch alloy wheels.

Interior Higlights

Inside the cabin, the new Hyundai i20 offers a range of enhancements for a more comfortable and technologically advanced ride. The dual-tone seats with i20 branding provide an inviting atmosphere. The dual-tone black and grey interiors are complemented by soothing blue ambient lighting.

For added convenience, the new i20 features a glovebox cooling system, push-button start/stop, and fully automatic temperature control (FATC). The rear center armrest enhances passenger comfort, while the leather-wrapped D-cut steering wheel adds a touch of sophistication.

The infotainment system has been upgraded to a 26.03 cm (10.25”) HD touchscreen unit with navigation, which is best in its segment. The car now boasts a Bose Premium 7 Speaker System for an immersive audio experience. Additionally, it offers ambient sound of nature with seven options, a segment-first feature. The voice-enabled smart electric sunroof, push-button start/stop, cruise control, rear AC vents, and a wireless charger further elevate the convenience and luxury of the i20's interior.

Safety First: Advanced Safety Features

Hyundai has not compromised on safety in the new i20. It comes equipped with advanced safety features including Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC), and six airbags as standard. The emergency stop signal, a segment-first feature, enhances safety further. The i20 also offers ISOFIX child seat anchorage and a tyre pressure monitoring system (highline) with display on the MID.

With the launch of the refreshed i20, Hyundai aims to set new benchmarks in terms of design, comfort, technology, and safety. This premium hatchback is expected to appeal to a wide range of consumers, from tech enthusiasts to families seeking a stylish yet practical vehicle. The i20 facelift continues Hyundai's tradition of delivering quality and innovation to the Indian automotive market.
