Car Prices Set to Rise in 2026: Renault, Nissan and MG Announce Hikes From January
4 min read
As 2025 draws to a close, multiple car manufacturers in India have officially confirmed price hikes starting January 1, 2026. Rising input costs, currency fluctuations and broader macroeconomic pressures have prompted brands to revise prices across their portfolios. For buyers planning a new car purchase, the next few weeks could be crucial, as current prices remain valid only till the end of December 2025.
Here is a closer look at the brands that have announced price increases, the models affected, and what this means for prospective buyers.
Renault India: Price Hike of Up to 2 Percent Across the Line-Up

Renault India has confirmed a price increase of up to 2 percent, effective January 2026. The French automaker has cited rising production costs and exchange rate volatility as the key reasons behind the revision. While model-wise price details are yet to be disclosed, the hike will apply to all three models currently on sale.
Renault Kwid
The Kwid remains Renault’s most affordable offering and a popular choice among entry-level buyers. Currently priced between ₹4.30 lakh and ₹5.88 lakh, the hatchback is expected to see a modest upward revision. Post-hike, prices could start at around ₹4.38 lakh and approach ₹6 lakh for higher trims. Known for its SUV-inspired styling, compact footprint and efficient petrol engine, the Kwid continues to cater to urban commuters and first-time buyers.
Renault Triber
The Triber has carved a niche as a compact yet versatile MPV with flexible seating. With current prices ranging from ₹5.76 lakh to ₹8.39 lakh, the revised pricing could begin near ₹5.88 lakh and extend to approximately ₹8.55 lakh. Its modular seating layout, spacious cabin and practicality make it a strong value-driven family option even after the hike.
Renault Kiger
Renault’s subcompact SUV, the Kiger, is priced between ₹5.76 lakh and ₹10.34 lakh at present. Following the 2 percent revision, prices could move to the ₹5.88 lakh–₹10.54 lakh range. With its turbo-petrol option, bold styling and competitive feature set, the Kiger is expected to remain a strong contender in the compact SUV segment.
Renault has also confirmed that two new SUVs are slated for India in 2026, including the next-generation Duster and its seven-seat derivative, reinforcing the brand’s long-term commitment to the market.

Nissan India: Prices to Rise by Up to 3 Percent
Nissan has announced a price hike of up to 3 percent across its India portfolio from January 2026. Currently, the Magnite is the brand’s sole offering in the country, and it will be directly impacted.
Nissan Magnite
The Magnite has been positioned as a value-packed compact SUV, with prices currently ranging from ₹5.62 lakh to ₹10.76 lakh. From January, prices are expected to increase by approximately ₹17,000 to ₹32,000, pushing the range to around ₹5.79 lakh–₹11.08 lakh. Despite the hike, the Magnite continues to stand out with its turbo-petrol engine option, practical cabin and competitive pricing, especially after recent GST-related price corrections earlier this year.
Nissan has also confirmed three new launches by 2027, with the first expected in 2026 in the form of a compact MPV, signalling renewed product activity for the brand.

MG Motor India: 2 Percent Price Increase Across the Portfolio
JSW MG Motor India has announced a 2 percent price hike effective January 2026, attributing the move to rising input costs and prevailing market conditions. The increase will vary depending on the model and variant.
MG Windsor EV
MG’s strong-selling electric crossover, the Windsor EV, could see prices rise by approximately ₹30,000 to ₹37,000. This would take its ex-showroom pricing to an estimated ₹14.27 lakh–₹18.76 lakh. With its spacious cabin, modern design and EV-focused features, the Windsor continues to attract urban EV buyers despite the upcoming hike.
MG Comet EV
MG’s most affordable electric offering, the Comet EV, is expected to receive a smaller revision of around ₹10,000–₹20,000. Revised prices could fall between ₹7.64 lakh and ₹10.19 lakh. Its compact dimensions, city-friendly driving dynamics and distinctive design make it a practical urban EV.
MG Hector and Hector Plus
MG recently updated the Hector range with refreshed styling, interior enhancements and new technology features. Prices currently range from ₹11.99 lakh to ₹18.99 lakh for the Hector, while the Hector Plus is priced between ₹17.29 lakh and ₹19.49 lakh. Revised prices for select diesel and seating configurations are expected to be announced in 2026.
More Brands to Follow Suit
Alongside Renault, Nissan and MG, premium manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz and BYD have also confirmed price increases starting January 2026. Currency pressures and rising operational costs continue to impact the broader automotive industry, making price revisions increasingly common.
What This Means for Car Buyers
With multiple manufacturers confirming hikes, December 2025 becomes a critical window for buyers looking to lock in current prices. Acting before the revision not only helps avoid higher ex-showroom costs but can also unlock year-end offers, exchange benefits and dealer-level schemes. Platforms like Carbae help buyers track such changes, compare showroom-level offers and make informed purchase decisions at the right time.
