Tata Motors, a front-runner in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, unveils its fourth EV model, the Tata Punch EV. Priced competitively at 10.99 lakhs to 14.99 lakhs (introductory prices), this micro-SUV is not just an addition to Tata's electric lineup; it's a statement of the company's commitment to a sustainable, electric future.
Acti.EV Architecture: What sets the Punch EV apart is its distinction as the first Tata model built on the innovative Acti.EV architecture. This architecture is more than a foundation; it's a blueprint for Tata's future electric cars. With a promise of adaptability to various body styles and sizes.
Power Dynamics: The Punch EV offers two compelling options: the standard model and the long-range variant. The standard model features a 60kW/114Nm permanent magnet synchronous AC motor, while the long-range model steps up with a robust 90kW/190Nm permanent magnet synchronous AC motor.
Backing these powertrains are impressive battery packs. The standard Punch EV, equipped with a 25kWh battery, claims a commendable range of 315km (MIDC). The Long Range model flaunts a larger 35kWh battery, extending its range to an impressive 421km (MIDC).
Charging Convenience: Charging the Punch EV is designed for convenience. The standard variant can be charged from 10-100% using a 3.3kW AC home wall box charger in 9.4 hours, a 7.2kW AC home wall box charger in 3.6 hours, and a 15 A plug point in 9.4 hours. For swift charging, a 50kW DC fast charger can juice up the battery from 10-80% in just 56 minutes.
The Long Range model, with its larger battery, takes 13.5 hours for a 10-100% charge via a 3.3kW AC home wall box charger and 15 A plug point. With a 7.2kW AC home wall box charger, this time is reduced to 5 hours. Similar to the standard model, a 10-80% charge is achievable in a quick 56 minutes with a 50kW DC fast charger.
Futuristic Exterior: The Punch EV's design echoes the futuristic vibes of the recently launched Nexon EV. LED projector headlamps, complemented by LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, and striking 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, give the Punch EV an identity that's both modern and bold. The LED strip across the nose adds a distinctive touch, setting it apart on the streets.
Tech-Packed Interior: Stepping inside the Punch EV reveals a meticulously crafted dual-tone black and grey cabin. The layered dashboard design, Tata's new two-spoke steering wheel with a backlit Tata logo, and gloss black and leatherette upholstery finish on the center console create an ambiance of sophistication.
The interior boasts leatherette seats, ventilated front seats, an air purifier with AQI display, a voice-assisted electric sunroof, a USB Type-C fast charging port (45W), front armrest, an illuminated cooled glove box, and a rear center armrest. The 10.25-inch touch infotainment system by Harman, coupled with the 10-inch digital instrument cluster, elevates the driving experience.
Entertainment Hub: Arcade.EV, Tata's entertainment hub accessible through the infotainment system. Punch EV occupants can access up to 17 apps, making every drive an experience. Connect car technology is offered as standard, featuring smartwatch connectivity. An automatic climate control system with a touch-enabled panel adds to the overall convenience.
Safety First: Ensuring safety across all variants, Tata has incorporated six airbags, an electronic stability program, ISOFIX, roll-over mitigation, brake disc wiping, and hydraulic fading compensation. Higher trims come with advanced features like SOS calling with e-call and b-call, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system with a blind spot monitor.
